Destin Fire Control District’s Technical Rescue Team, TRT-109, is a highly trained specialty team prepared to respond to complex emergencies involving structural collapse, confined spaces, trench rescue, high- and low-angle rope rescue, and vehicle or machinery entrapment.

TRT-109 is integrated with Florida Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 7 through a regional partnership between the Destin Fire Control District and Tallahassee Fire Department. Tallahassee Fire Department forms and coordinates Task Force 7, which provides specialized rescue and recovery capabilities throughout North Florida and may deploy anywhere in the state when activated. This partnership combines Tallahassee’s statewide task-force coordination with Destin’s trained personnel, specialized equipment, and technical-rescue experience, strengthening emergency response capabilities for both local incidents and large-scale disasters.

                                            Deployment 

In July 2026, Destin Fire Control District personnel deployed to Texas as members of Florida Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 7’s Type 3 Swiftwater Team to assist communities affected by severe flooding. During the mission, the team conducted reconnaissance, gathered intelligence, helped local officials identify areas of concern, completed assessments along the Rio Grande, and supported aerial reconnaissance by helicopter. As flash-flood conditions changed, the team was reassigned to the Lampasas area before safely completing the deployment and returning home. The mission demonstrated how Destin Fire’s partnership with Tallahassee Fire Department and FL-TF7 extends the District’s specialized rescue capabilities to communities in need throughout Florida and across the nation.
